VP Ma’ruf Amin Urges Ministries/Institutions to Boost Stunting Reduction Measures

Vice President Ma’ruf Amin Wednesday (05/11) urged ministries/institutions to remain committed to implementing Presidential Regulation Number 72 of 2021 on the Acceleration of Stunting Reduction.

“Stunting reduction’s target of 14 percent must be achieved by 2024. I hope that ministries and institutions can carry out the program in earnest and maintain collaboration to foster breakthroughs by implementing the Presidential Regulation and the National Action Plan on Stunting Reduction in Indonesia as the basis regulations,” the Vice President said.

Based on the report from Ministry of Health’s Indonesia Nutrition Status Survey (SSGI) in 2021, the number of stunting prevalence has reduced in the last three years from 30.8 percent in 2018 to 24.4 percent in 2021.

Vice President Ma’ruf also underscored that one of concrete actions that can be taken is by carrying out interventions,both specific interventions and intensive interventions.

Thus, he ordered Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Cultural Affairs Muhadjir Effendy to immediately take strategic steps so that the implementation can be on target.

The Vice President also appealed to Head of the National Population and Family Planning (BKKBN) Hasto Wardoyowho also serves as Chairperson of the Team for Acceleration of Stunting Reduction, to intensively improve collaboration with ministries/institutions in carrying out the program in 12 priority provinces that have been determined by the Government.

Ma’ruf Amin also ordered Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin to routinely publish the accurate data on stunting prevalence so that the data can serve as a basis for issuing other national policies, regulations.

The Vice President further emphasized that budget synchronization among ministries/institutions related to stunting reduction program in Indonesia is vital so that the program can be properly implemented.  

“The program must be systematically, periodically monitored, evaluated, and reported so that we can know the update, achievement, and challenges faced during the implementation to ensure that stunting reduction’s target of 14 percent by 2024 can be achieved,” he added.

Vice President Ma’ruf Amin also pushed for measures on stunting reduction that must be focused in provinces with a high number of stunting prevalence, including East Nusa Tenggara, West Sulawesi, Aceh, West Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, Central Sulawesi, and West Nusa Tenggara as well as in provinces with a high number of children with stunting including West Java, East Java, Central Java, Banten and North Sumatra. (BPMI of Vice President’s Secretariat) (AP/EP)
